Turn Receipts into an Expense Report — Without Uploading Them

Filing an expense claim or keeping your books usually means typing the same details again and again: who you paid, when, how much, the tax and how you paid. This free receipt scanner reads photos, screenshots and PDF receipts with OCR and fills in an expense table for you — merchant, date, category, total, tax, tip, currency and payment method — so you only have to check it and export it to Excel or CSV.

Receipts reveal more than you might think: where you were and when, what you bought and the last digits of your card. Most receipt apps upload every photo to their servers. Here the OCR engine runs inside your browser, so your receipts never leave your device — a good fit for corporate expense policies, client projects and personal tax records alike.

How to scan receipts to Excel

  1. Add your receipts — drop photos (JPG, PNG, WebP), screenshots of e-receipts or PDFs. Every image and every PDF page becomes one row, so a whole month of receipts can go in at once.
  2. Review the rows — fields that could not be found are flagged with ⚠. Open a row with its arrow to see the receipt, the recognised text and the line items, and correct any cell in place.
  3. Check the category — each receipt is sorted into Food & dining, Groceries, Fuel, Travel & transport, Shopping, Utilities, Medical or Other. Change it with the drop-down.
  4. Export — download an Excel workbook (dates and amounts as real values, with an optional Line items sheet), a CSV file, or copy the rows straight into your company's expense template.

Limitations

Faded, crumpled or handwritten receipts can produce wrong numbers, so compare each total with the receipt before you submit a claim — the ⚠ badge shows which fields to double-check. Up to 20 pages of each PDF are read. Amounts are not converted between currencies; the totals line adds them up per currency instead.

Private by design

Images and the text read from them stay in your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded to SarvKit or anyone else — the only downloads are the OCR engine and language data, which are cached for next time. For tables of any kind use Image to Excel, to keep a scanned receipt searchable use OCR PDF, and for supplier invoices that are already PDFs try Invoice to Excel. Need to work out tax? Printed till receipts, restaurant bills, fuel slips, taxi, parking and hotel receipts, and e-receipts saved as PDF or screenshots. Sharp, flat, evenly lit photos give the most accurate totals.
Tax lines such as CGST, SGST, IGST, cess, VAT, TVA, MwSt, GST, HST and sales tax are recognised and added up into the Tax column; a printed tax total is used when there is one. Registration numbers like GSTIN or VAT No are ignored.

Download Excel or CSV, or press Copy for Excel and paste into your company template or Google Sheets. The Excel file stores dates and amounts as real values and can include a second sheet with every line item.
Blur, glare, fading or creases can change digits, and some dates such as 03/04/2026 are ambiguous. Open the row to compare with the receipt, fix the cell, and set the date format above if your receipts all use the same style.
No. Each receipt keeps the currency printed on it (or the one you choose when none is printed), and totals are shown per currency so nothing is mixed up.
