HEIC to JPG — Everything You Need to Know About Converting iPhone Photos
If you've ever emailed a photo from your iPhone to a Windows PC and been told the file "can't be opened," you've met HEIC. Since iOS 11, Apple devices save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) by default. It's a great format — but not every app or website supports it, so converting to JPG makes your photos work everywhere.
What is HEIC and why convert it?
- Smaller files, same quality — HEIC stores a photo in roughly half the size of an equivalent JPEG, which is why Apple adopted it.
- Limited compatibility — Windows (without an add-on), many web uploaders, older Androids and lots of apps still can't read HEIC.
- JPG is universal — converting gives you a file that opens on any device, uploads to any site, and prints anywhere.
- PNG option — choose PNG when you want a lossless copy, for example for editing or screenshots.
How to convert
- Pick your output format (JPG or PNG) and, for JPG, a quality level.
- Drop one or many
.heic/.heiffiles onto the box, or click to browse. - Each photo appears as a thumbnail with a Download button; use Download all to save the whole batch.
Private by design
Unlike most online converters that upload your photos to a server, this one decodes HEIC entirely on your device. The decoder (about 1.5 MB) loads only the first time you convert — after that it's cached and instant — and your images never leave your browser. Close the tab and nothing remains.
