Scanned PDF & Image to Word (OCR)

Turn a scanned PDF, a photo of a document or a screenshot into an editable Word document. OCR reads every page, wrapped lines are joined back into paragraphs and headings are kept, so you can edit straight away. Everything runs in your browser β€” your files are never uploaded.

Each PDF becomes its own Word file; images dropped together become one document, one page each β€” or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.

Convert Scans to Editable Word Documents

Retyping a scanned letter, a printed report or a photographed form takes ages. This free converter uses OCR (optical character recognition) to read the text on every page and builds a Word document (.docx) you can edit in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages. Unlike most online converters, it does the work inside your browser, so confidential paperwork stays on your computer.

How to convert a scanned PDF to Word

  1. Add your scan β€” drop a PDF, or several photos or screenshots of pages.
  2. Pick the language β€” 21 OCR languages including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Urdu, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and the main European languages.
  3. Download the .docx β€” open it in Word or Google Docs and edit. A plain-text copy is available too.

What you get

Limitations to know about

OCR recovers the text, not the exact visual design. Fonts, colours, columns, tables and images are not rebuilt β€” text from multi-column pages is placed column by column, and tables come out as lines of text (use Image to Excel for tables). Handwriting is not recognised reliably. If you only need to search or copy from the scan while keeping it as a PDF, OCR PDF is the better choice; for quick text from a single image, use Image to Text.

Tips for better results

Private by design

The PDF is rendered, recognised and assembled into a Word file entirely in your browser. No page, image or text is sent to SarvKit or a third party. The only downloads are the OCR engine, its language data and the Word-file library, which your browser caches.
